Hi, I’m Andrea
A career and leadership coach committed to helping others harness their potential. With my Stanford MBA, I spent 20 years as a marketing executive, ‘chasing success’. I realized I wanted something more. I turned to what I’ve always cared most about -
building people and teams.
Get to Know Me
As a child, I played every game and sport I could get my hands on. I logged thousands of hours playing soccer all over the North East. I had passion, ambition and grit - in spades. I ended up playing soccer at a Top 20 Division I program. Sports were where I built my character and discovered what it felt like to be in a state of flow.
I also learned what it was like to be a part of a high functioning team. My coaches, some of the best collegiate leadership examples in the game, created a culture of trust, respect and family; we were tightly connected with shared goals and ownership. As a result, we achieved more than the sum or our parts.
Over my many years of sports, I also learned from bad leadership, and all its ramifications.
Athlete: Character, Flow and Team
Global Citizen: Intuition and Courageous Leadership
As a child, I lived the first eight years of my life overseas. I loved the sights, sounds, smells of places, the histories and traditions, and probably most the people and their ways. Traveling fueled my curiosity and tapped my love for adventure. I learned to find comfort with the uncomfortable and to expect the unexpected. There was no user manual. I learned to trust my intuition.
When I was 22 years old, I co-led twenty high-school kids on a summer trip through Europe. I had to figure out how to get these kids to go to museums, catch our trains on time, and not get us kicked out of hotels. This was one of my first ‘real’ tests in courageous leadership - a sizable step-change from captaining a sports team. In order to facilitate a safe and fun trip for everyone, I had to effectively lead from the front, back and side.
Professional: Falling Well, Soft Skills and Purpose
As a marketer, I have had a variety of experiences. I worked in the strategy group of a leading digital agency serving Clients like Comcast, IBM and American Express. I led marketing for a business unit at eBay and then was the CMO of small start-up. All of these experiences felt like roller coaster rides. I fell often. I learned to pick myself back up - no one else was going to do it for me.
I learned that soft skills will get you further than hard skills. Some skills like building and managing teams came naturally. Some aspect, I didn’t love, like difficult conversations and politics. I learned I needed to accept, reframe and get into them.
A career is a long game. Extrinsic motivations will only get you so far. Find and embrace your purpose. Live into your values. Make decisions and build behaviors that are coherent with your north star. I wish I did this sooner.
Wife, Mom, Daughter, Sister, Friend: Inspiration and Values
I am most inspired by my family, my husband, Steve, and our two little kids, Curtis and Katherine. They help me to show up better every day. We live in Berkeley, CA. When I am not coaching, I enjoy being an amateur athlete and a personal development geek. I love volunteering with kids, coaching sports teams and helping in the classroom.
In addition to my family and friends, I value integrity, wholeheartness and play.
